Things to do in Oamaru

Hi, guys! Since we have about two weeks time until our next job to start. So we decided to travel around and to complete our South Island trip. After check out from our accommodation and say bye-bye to the landlord we then head down to Oamaru as our first station.

After squeezed everything into the car then our trip has begun! Is so excited to travel but the weather is not as supportive as what we thought. Well, nothing going to stop us from travelling. So we stick to our own plan and depart. It is a 336KM drive from Rolleston to Oamaru and the journey took 4 hours drive. Since it is a rainy day, so we are actually looking for indoor activities to keep us dry. We visited Steampunk HQ Museum.

The first impression toward this museum was WOW!! This is totally something interesting. (At least for me) I really love that weird and special stuff. So quick went inside and there is a charge for an adult is 10NZD but I think is all worth it.

Look! The adult kid Danny is so excited for everything inside the museum. Took a lot of photos and we spend around an hour inside. You think that's all? Nope! There is something amazing behind. Let's check it out!

The Portal is so awesome, isn't it! This is totally surprised me that I never knew such a special museum could do this to surprise the guest. This museum is totally worth visit! So, if you manage to visit Oamaru please don't skip this attraction! That's why we spend so long inside hahaha!

After all the excitement and energy spend we are actually quite hungry already. Loitering around the town to look for the famous Victorian high tea cafe. Unfortunately, the cafe has actually permanently closed down. This is something upsetting us. As that is a must-visit theme restaurant when you visit Oamaru. But too bad we are not lucky enough to visit before they close down. So we chose a restaurant located at the town name Star and Garter.

Fish the day.

All day breakfast.

Lambs fry.

Roast the day.

The taste is good the price is acceptable the environment is so comfortable. Especially during the windy cold day walking under the rain. Recommended to people who drop by Oamaru but didn't know what to eat. I wish to share more tasty restaurant to my reader but then I have only one tummy. I will try my best to hunt for more restaurant. After a short break full fill our tummy, we then walk around exploring the town. Then we found this Whisky Collection shop sneak in for a while. Because the wind is too strong and really cold. But then you need to pretend like you really look for whisky hahaha.

So, Danny bought a glass of whisky for testing and this big glass with a little sip of whisky cost NZD15. I guess if not mistaken was 18 years? I am not so sure about it. He enjoys like a boss that why we can hide in the shop to prevent from cold. hahaha.

They have a lot of collection in the shop. For whisky lover, you may drop by over here. Besides that, they sell chocolate too! But the chocolate is non-alcoholic one. Shi Wan cannot resist any chocolate so she bought a piece of chocolate for NZD5. Then we share the chocolate together and delay the time from leaving the shelter. Outside is way too cold.

Look at how thick am I wearing. I wore 3 pieces and a scarfing roll over my body to keep myself warm. I love travelling to somewhere I am not familiar to. Then, only you have the chances to explore more and there is surprise everywhere. I don't usually plan my trip, all of my travel itineraries was free and easy. Back to the topic again, after we finish our whisky and chocolate, is time to leave for next destination - Penguin!

Firstly, we head over to Blue Penguin Colony and found this road sign so cute! Unfortunately, we do not manage to see even one penguin, from what the receptionist told us, the penguin usually came back after 6pm evening. By the time we visit was around 6.30pm they still haven't come back yet. So since the penguin is not around, then we loitering around there home hahaha.

Look! What we found here! it's Seal all over the rock! I manage to record one that moving one. Others all lay on the rock and sleep like a dead body. if they don't move you cant even see because they're almost same colour with the rock haha. Okay lah not too bad, at least there is seal instead of a penguin. Since we don't see any penguin exist here, we decided to look for another beach for the yellow eyed penguin at Bushy Beach Scenic Reserve. But still, we couldn't find any of them. So, at last, we back to our homestay and end our day here. A little bit disappointed? Yeah me too! We actually went out again during night time to look for the penguin. We found all of them standing on a broken bridge which is not accessive by the human. But too far for us to see so here the picture.

Hopefully better luck next time! See ya penguin! Last but not least, the Blue Penguin Colony actually provide some tours with prices. So if you really want to see you can pay for it and they will bring you the world's smallest penguin - Blue Penguin! Here the price and package for you! Cheer!

The next day morning, before have our breakfast, we drop by to Oamaru lookout point. It is a cloudy day the weather isnt good enough for a great photo.

After this we went for breakfast at The Galley which right beside the bay. The restaurant is simple and nice, there is a small playground beside the restaurant and there is a huge photo frame for tourist to take photo with sea as the background. The environment is good and cosy. Lovely day has begin with the great breakfast.

After breakfast and loitering around. Finally we leave Oamaru to the next desitination - Dunedin! Thats all for Oamaru, continue read for the Dunedin part.
